He’s coming to steal my hibiscus, isn’t he?

“I worry about Herman’s weak back legs, too. Did the doctor have any specific recommendations to help strengthen them? Herman has a tortoise table and ramp now, but I’m not sure that will be enough.”
Hi Ellen! We asked the Dr. about that because friend Sheldon (a hermann’s tort) likes to push with his back legs rather than walk. He said that his hermanns have been known to push to but not all the time. It might be something that they do. He said for me to keep up with the calcium on my food a couple of times a week and keep chewing on my cuttle bone too.
Thank you Hideki! Mom keeps calling me she but says it might take awhile to get used to the change. I still want to be cute and I don’t mind if mom wants to call me her little princess. It doesn’t matter to me as long as I’m loved :}
Thank you! I love to make people smile. Today I let a bunch of girls give me head skritches and I put on my best cute face. They were all smiling and giggling. I hope I can do the same for you :}
Time for some noms after a long day. Mom took us to the reptile expo so we could meet Dr. Nick who specializes in tortoise and turtle care. Mom wanted him to have a look at me to see how my health is progressing. He looked at the picture of me at my old house and said that he could tell by looking at me that I have made a total turn around. He said my new growth is coming in just right and my weight is gaining at a good rate. There are some problems that are still working out though. My back legs aren’t as strong as they should be and instead of standing up tall, my back legs tend to push more than step. He says it’s because I was calcium deficient but the good news is that because I have lots of growing to do, my legs can continue to grow strong and get better over time. Mom also has to watch my front nails because I walk on the sides of my feet and my nails grow sideways. He also explained to mom exactly how my shell grew the way it did. So interesting! The big news is something that mom has suspected for a little bit but wanted to make sure it was true first. So here it is.
I’m a boy!
My shell is going concave and my back area looks male too. I hope my friends will still love me since I am a boy. I’m still going to be Mango and the same silly tort I’ve always been.
Mom… Could I please have that tasty lettuce? I ate all my weeds this morning. I can?! Yay! Nom, nom, nom!
No worries at all. I get asked quite often and last week I was asked a couple of times in one day so I made the post. I don’t mind as long as people aren’t rude and you weren’t. Big tortie kisses.
Hello friend! If you go to my page and look at a post from a week or so ago, you’ll find me addressing that. I’m a rescue and this is how mom got me. There’s even a now and then photo. Hope that helps clear up your question about my bumpy shell :}
